Cecelia Grade- Owner, Lead Decorator, Lead Baker (I'm in the middle)
Hi! My name is Cecelia Baker Grade, YUP, you got that right my middle name is Baker! Extremely fitting because I am the Owner, Lead Decorator and Lead Baker at The Cake Lady. I grew up as my Momma’s sous chef in the kitchen standing on chairs to get a better view. As time went on it, became clear to me that I was happiest making a batch of chocolate chip cookies not only because of the joy it brought my tummy, but because of the ability to share them with others!
My culinary journey officially started in 2008, taking the only foods classes offered at Wauwatosa East High School and participating in the Wisconsin Pro-Start Cooking Competitions.
After high school I received my Baking and Pastry degree from Kendall College in Chicago, IL and then proceeded to intern at Bartolotta’s Lake Park Bistro on the pastry line for under Pastry Chef Annie Ghobrial. Every day felt like a marathon, but there was nothing better than the feeling of knowing you got through the dinner rush!
After a few years with Bartolotta I decided to reach out and see what other areas of pastry I could get my hands into. I was introduced to the owner of The Cake Lady, Karen Smith, and hired on in 2012 to be her assistant. I came in having little experience with cakes besides my short wedding cake class in college, so Karen taught me every technique, tip and recipe to create another Cake Lady to bake for Milwaukee.
In February of 2018 I officially bought the business from Karen, which felt like the most natural and right transition for the both of us. I was honored and excited to take over such a strong existing business that she had help build, and she knew it would be in good hands.
I truly LOVE my job. Not only do I still enjoy being elbow deep in cake batter, or piping intricate designs on 6 tier wedding cakes but I love working with my clients and developing relationships to create life long Cake Lady customers! Your joy is my joy!

Miss Anne Giordano - Sugar Flower Extraordinare/Master of all Fondant/My Right Hand Woman
Anne Giordano is the definition of a jack of ALL trades. Her list of specialties, hobbies, licenses is nothing short of impressive! She's got her Baking and Pastry degree from MATC, a BS in Human Science from Florida State University, is a certified licensed Massage Therapist, Swing Dance instructor, and Pilates instructor. And just because that isn't quite enough for her- she is currently hard at work in grad school at the University of Milwaukee in the Masters of Sustainable Peace Building program.
This lady is outgoing, and ready to try just about anything! Including any random ambitious cake project that is put in front of her. She fills her free time taking amazing trips, rock climbing, swing dancing, trying out trapeze for fun- you name it!
Her time at The Cake Lady is actually longer than mine! She began working at the shop in 2010 after working in the industry at a few other wonderful places in Milwaukee including Bjonda, Bay Bakery, and Lake Park Bistro (although our time did not over lap, unfortunately!). She works in the shop creating amazing detailed projects- her specialty being her gorgeous sugar flowers. Her artistry is a KEY component to countless Cake Lady creations. There is no task that Anne doesn't figure out. Her "challenge accepted" attitude at work (and in her life) is fierce, and truthfully something I have always looked up to her for!
Anne fills two of her week days (I WISH IT WAS MORE!) with me at the shop, as well as working as a licensed Massage Therapist at the Wisconsin Athletic Club and her own office space in Shorewood.
The Cake Lady is open Wednesday through Saturday for appointments. Please note we do not take appointments on Sundays, Mondays, or Tuesdays. We try to accommodate our deliveries and schedules as well as yours! We ask for a minimum 1-2 week notice on all appointments.
